Wong Yi Vonn => week 5 - Discuss how this new "Social Media" phenomenon is affecting your life and the lives of the people around you.

This video is very similar to what I experienced, not about ice-creams but it was about Choir Songs.

I joined Choir Club when I was in secondary, and we always take part in competitions. Usually the song lists for competition use are decided by the teachers in charge, and thus the songs are always dull and boring.

Students soon lose their interest in choir club and start leaving the club. Of course the teachers noticed and started to have meetings with the club's high com. as the representatives of the students. The song chosen were much more interesting compared to the one teacher chosen, but unfortunately it

Finally, social media comes in. Someone open a group in Facebook letting every member have a chance to speak out their mind. Interesting songs that were never thought of were being introduced by a student. Other students that agreed on the song can support it by pressing the like button. Students that have their own idea on the song could also speak out by leaving a comment. Alas, a song that every member of the club agrees was chosen.

Thus, social media are not only for big companies to promote their goods, but are free for everyone to use. Like the real life example above, by using Facebook, besides the problem of my choir club was solved, the members are also motivated in practising the one song that they have chosen together.

Furthermore, member could leave comments whenever they want. Teachers and students will not need to spare some time to open a meeting any more.

A sneak peak to my choir club's group page in Facebook.

  1. I agree with Yi Vonn because a Facebook group really helps students to speak their minds and asks questions and receive answers immediately when encountered problems with assignments. Some student helped us learn Maya by spreading the news in our AFX group that he has Maya tutorials and we can get the files from him in class. The lecturer shares tutorials and drawing information in the group too!

  2. Well said. As for now, in our AFX group, our lecturer always update us about things to submit for next class. This is much more convenient as everyone uses Facebook everyday, so that we can keep update ourselves through Facebook... and it's also save a lot of time as we don't have to check MMLS purposely. We also able to proceed our works even when MMU MMLS server down.

  3. Haha, love Huan's comment. MMLS is really not the best place to post emergency notifications. As if it is compare to social network such as Facebook:

1)Users of MMLS could not leave the MMLS log in the whole day, because it will log out itself in a certain period of time if the user is not activating that site = users will miss new notification because not everyone will log in the same time. Logging in a same website multiple times a day will get people frustrated.

2)MMLS does not show alarm or pop ups whenever someone posted something new = User aren't aware of new information uploaded and log out without even noticing it.

    3) The discussion site of the MMLS aren't active. In Facebook, there is a system that is always updating on which friends are on-line and which aren't. Thus people are willing to wait for people to comment on their post, because they knew their friends were there. On the other hand, posting on MMLS (especially questions that needed answers immediately) are like talking to the wall. You'll never know is there anyone out there to answer your question.
