Within less than 10 years, social media gives a very obvious impact on each of us now. I believe all of us access to YouTube, facebook, Twitter, etc... It is so deeply invades into our life. If someone doesn't access or take part in any of these social media, that person will be recognized as a weirdo. :)
Its appearance does help in communicating idea in a cost effective way. For example, as a creative multimedia student, places like YouTube and Devianart provide us a platform to showcase our work. Here we can get feedback from people that we might not know in person. It could be good or bad feedback, but it help us to improve since arts is very subjective, it's good to get more opinion.
With the advance of technology, an media production for example video is not that costly. Everyone can produce their own video. But without this tools (social media), there is no channel for them (or us) to showcase the work to the world. So, in my opinion, the appearance of this kind of social media is an urge from society. It is an example of society shaping media.
yes, i do agree with Jean. Nowadays, people does not need to have expensive gadgets or sponsorship from company in order to show case your talent to the world. It is just a matter of of luck or by simple mean on how serious you are in promoting your video in the social media given. For example, share the link of your work through friends, and ask their help to continue sharing it to others is 1 of the effective way on using the power of social media.
