Stereotype:
“A term used to define all people selected few of the racial demographics. All people of all nationalities have been victims of being of a certain belief into a mostly negative category that may only reflect a stereotyped, even those whom have made most of the stereotypes of other people. “

Most humans are stereotype. Why? Because:
“People don't understand that type of person, so they put them into classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one.”

Normal Stereotypes that are usually being seen in Malaysia:
Malays - mostly work as teachers or artists
Chinese - mostly work as business man or accountant
Indians - mostly work as lawyer or doctor
Some even concluded that:
“ The Malays are lazy and slow, the Chinese are greedy and like to gamble, and the Indians are always drunk and they beat their wives.”

Beside Malaysians, all people of all nationalities have been the victims of stereotype
This is a video showing what people usually classifies/stereotypes the blacks, Mexicans, Asians, gays, and blondes
Blonde Stereotype (Dumb Blonde)
-the blonde stereotype so call as” dumb blonde” is a stereotype towards people (especially woman) that owns blond hair.
Mostly woman with blonde hair are very attractive and admirable in the European cultures, for example Marilyn Monroe. Thus it is often perceived as a group of people that relies on their looks rather than on intelligence.
Movies That shows the Blonde Stereotype
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes- Marilyn Monroe as the blonde that acts as a fragile woman that relies on her looks rather than intelligence
Glee- Heather Morris as Brittany Pierce, a cheerleader that is sexy and beautiful, but less intelligence.
A short commercial of Mercedes-Benz that use the Blonde Stereotype.
These stereotypes are originally seen as a joke and to add comic relief in the movie. But with Medias today, these jokes are turning into stereotypes which misleads people into “everyone who is that needs to be like that”.
For example, I didn’t have blonde friends and I never even meet a blonde before. But before meeting one, I already had an image of blonde people is more concern of their looks but not their intelligence. This stereotype maybe will influence me on how I treat a blonde if I met one, and that will be unfair for the person. Who knows that the person usually score straight A’s even though he/she is blonde?
Try to put yourself into their shoes, how will you feel when someone assume you are stupid even though he or she didn’t even know you. Isn’t it a little unfair?
Thus I think that media should stop supporting stereotypes, infect they could challenge it for example showing that not all blondes put all their attention on their appearance.

A: There's a stamp on it.
A dumb blonde was really tired of being made fun of, so she decided to have her hair she would look like a brunette.
When she had brown hair, she decided to take a drive in the country.
After she had been driving for a while, she saw a farmer and a flock of sheep and thought,
"Oh! Those sheep are so adorable!"
She got out and walked over to the farmer and said,
"If I can guess how many sheep you have, can I take one home?"
The farmer, being a bit of a gambler himself, said she could have a try.
The blonde looked at the flock and guessed, "157."
The farmer was amazed - she was right! So the blonde, (who looked like a brunette), picked one out and got back into her car.
Before she left, farmer walked up to her and said.
"If I can guess the real color of your hair, can I have my dog back?"
I agree with you. Having blond hair does not mean that the person is dumb. That person might have dyed her hair blond. Being blond also does not mean that they must be pretty, popular, snobbish and mean. There are some blonds out there that are not like that. For example, Taylor Swift is a natural blond, but she's not dumb, she can write her own music, she's not SUPER pretty and she's nice and sweet.
ReplyDeleteYes, besides that, having black skin doesn't mean that he is evil or villain; having whiter skin also doesn't means that he is pure and kind.
ReplyDeleteThrowing these mind set away and we will have a world with no racism and misunderstanding. =)
